Scotland Photography Continued

Scotland Photography Continued

FOLLOWING my post last week of a photo of a rushing river in Scotland’s Great Glen, I decided to post another photograph from the same Scotland vacation.  This photo is my favorite from the barge trip, which was a week-long cruise in which we crawled (approximately 7 miles per day) along the Caledonian Canal on a [...]

Friday Photography

Friday Photography

This photograph was taken while on a tour of the Caledonian Canal.  Throughout the week, we stayed on a barge called ‘The Scottish Highlander’ and dined on excellent Scottish cuisine.  This was taken on one of the day trips– a wonderful opportunity to photograph a ‘wild’, rushing river.  Just lovely.

Time. Pieces.

Time. Pieces.

I so enjoy #Frifotos, the weekly Friday photo forum on Twitter.  The themes motivate me to take a second look at my photographs, by which I either rediscover great shots I’d passed over before or, by underlining common content matter, bring my attention to those I can compile into a gallery.  For example, I never [...]

New Zealand’s Beauty

New Zealand's Beauty

Today Prince William visited New Zealand and spoke in honor of those who died in last month’s earthquake.  He also offered condolences to the people of Japan, expressing that New Zealand’s community can fully appreciate the horror of what the Japanese are going through. I also want to share my deep concern for these beautiful [...]

A Flash Post- Kaikoura

A Flash Post- Kaikoura

In honor of Twitter’s FridayFotos theme (Cheers!), a flash post on Kaikoura, New Zealand on the South Island. Kaikoura is the unsung hero of great travel itineraries.  A short drive from Christchurch on the South Island of New Zealand, pack your day with adventure tours and a visit to Kaikoura winery. Setting out to sea on [...]

Jump for my Love– Add Dynamic Jumping Pics to your Travel Photography Repertoire!

Jump for my Love-- Add Dynamic Jumping Pics to your Travel Photography Repertoire!

When Margo Millure of the Travel Belles asked me for a favorite travel photo, my thoughts flew not to my shots of vibrant Venice canals or the serene Japanese Alps, though they are lovely, but to a picture that brought grass-scented prairie winds of New Zealand rushing back.  Cool glacial air surrounding me, I was [...]

A Vision in Stained Glass- The Gorgeous Windows of La Sainte-Chapelle

A Vision in Stained Glass- The Gorgeous Windows of La Sainte-Chapelle

The itinerary you planned for your day on the Ile de la Cite may need re-vamping.  First, if you haven’t planned to visit La Saint-Chapelle while in Paris, add it right away.  And second, though the chapel itself is relatively small compared to the big grande dame of the isle, Notre Dame de Paris, you’ll [...]

Mojitos in Tokyo- A Story of Steamy Salsa in Tokyo’s Racy Nightclub District, Roppongi

Mojitos in Tokyo- A Story of Steamy Salsa in Tokyo's Racy Nightclub District, Roppongi

My skirt is too short. At least that’s what my salsa teacher tells me on the way to the club as we walk through the streets of Roppongi. I’m surprised.  Aren’t salsa clubs sexy? I didn’t expect to be told that a salsa club would require me to dress conservatively.   I’m wearing a black, pleated [...]

Running bare at Minakami

Running bare at Minakami

Running bare at Minakami’s Hot Springs, Japan I stepped out barefoot into the frozen snow wearing only a towel.  I was still in the women’s changing area, but the gateway to the mixed bathing pools loomed at the top of the steps just ahead.  My friends and I ascended the stone steps together, all a [...]

Taking the Gods for a Spin

Taking the Gods for a Spin

We’ve expelled the evil spirits and invited God to inhabit the portable shrine.  The ceremony, called the Oharai has finished. The monk, having just purified everyone present, puts away his tree branch and scroll.  The gold metal trimming on rooftop of the newly renovated shrine shines brightly in the sun.  It’s a special day.  The [...]
